Correctional Officer Responsibilities:

Ensure the care, custody, and control of offenders.

Officers must tour assigned areas which will require:

1. periodically climbing stairs.
2. observing offender activity in person and on closed-circuit monitors.
3. identify offenders who have behavioral, medical, or other problems so that appropriate safety and security measures may be taken.
4. and perform general security duties to prevent escape, disorder, rule infractions, and harm to offenders, visitors, and staff.

The general security duties performed by officers require them to:

1. search offenders, visitors, cells, and other areas for weapons and contraband.
2. monitor and regulate offender and staff movement.
3. maintain and record offender counts, cell assignments, and other pertinent information.
4. escort offenders within and outside the institution.
5. use and maintain keys and other equipment.
6. and supervise offender work details.
